I have been a Licensed Massage Practitioner in Washington State since 1994. My former career was in administration and sales, which gave me a solid foundation for building successful massage practices in a hair salon and chiropractic clinic.
In 1996, I joined forces with two partners to create a seated massage company with an ongoing contract to provide seated massage for Boeing's plants in Auburn, Renton, Bellevue and Everett. Our company also managed a dozen other corporate accounts and two independent massage clinics. In addition to recruiting and personnel, I was responsible for the continuing education program we offered at our staff meetings. That's when I discovered that I love to teach!
After two years and feeling bogged down by "administrivia," I left the company to return to private practice and begin teaching.
In 2000, I accepted a position as a full time massage instructor at Renton Technical College near Seattle. As the sole instructor for a 1,080 hour, 9-month program for four years, I taught the basics, as well as a variety of modalities and treatment methods.
While at RTC, I received training in Universal Design for Learning, a framework for education that employs multiple means of presentation and engagement based on learning styles and varying student abilities.
I enjoy inspiring my students to learn. The structure and function of the human body is a fascinating subject to study in and of itself, however it's exploration becomes even more fascinating when the focus for learning is massage-based. I consider it an honor to be passing knowledge of the healing arts hand to hand. It is a source of "big joy" in my life.
I currently teach and practice massage in Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, where I live with my husband David and cat Sissy.
